Just thought I'd post a very Mary (Engelbreit) piece of art work for Christmas....

Easy Peasy Pie Crust

Here is a bulk recipe for pie crust. This makes about 22 single crusts. Make it all at once and store in freezer til ready to use. They are good in the freezer for about a year. Mom gave me this recipe and we often will make a big batch and split it between the two of us. Great to have on hand for pot pies too!

The ingredients:

One 5 lb. bag of all purpose flour
One 3 lb. can of vegetable shortening (i.e. Crisco)
2 Tbsp. salt
3 Cups cold water

In a very large bowl, combine flour and salt well. Cut shortening into flour mixture with a pastry cutter.

Continue working at cutting in shortening until the size of peas.

Add water a little at a time until well blended.

Shape into approximately 22 balls of dough.

Place in FREEZER bags for storage in freezer compartment. You can store as many as you like in each bag, however.......

I usually put two dough balls into each bag. Great for a cobbler or pot pie or a two crust pie, or for two single crust pies or quiches.

Can also be pressed into a round disk shape for easier "rolling out" or just in case the rest of the family might think you saved snowballs from a recent snow!

I LOVE THIS!

It just doesn't get any cuter than this! I may have to cash in a 401K to get one though.

Collection

My weakness....dishes.  I think I inherited it from my mother.  I can't explain it.  The red polka dot bowls were my grandmother's.  The pastels have just been collected here and there (love those custard cups!).  Teapots....oh my, I used to have so many more.  I had to cut back, especially after moving a few times in the last five years.

Then, there are the turquoise and robin's egg blue items I am starting to add.  I got the sugar bowl and s/p shaker set from my step-grandmother when I was just a teenager and hadn't yet begun my dish obsession back then.  I found the Frankoma honey jar last year at Goodwill for a steal!  Of course, I already had a honey jar (see below), so now I have started a whole new collection THERE!

And then......

Then.....there is the small Cameoware collection.  I know, I know.....but they are so PRETTY!

Of course, then we have the blue/white collection.  I've had this obsession for a long, looooong time.  My first weakness.  This is only a smattering of what I've collected over the years.  I just don't have the room right now.  The rest is all tucked away safely until I have more space.

And, of course, I couldn't resist this cute little blue and white birdie clock!

LOVE those custard cups!

I failed to mention I just obtained a 4-piece place setting of robin's egg blue stoneware to replace my everyday blue willow dishes.  Hey, they were only 20 bucks!

Awright, awright, awwwwright.....I'll write sumpthin'!

You see, I started this blog in November 2010....and I haven't posted a single thing since my first post. I've got some catching up to do.

Therefore, here are the Top 20 quirky little factoids about me, not known to just ANYbody, mind you, until now, and in no particular order:

1. I am addicted to carbonated beverages, i.e. Dr. Pepper. If I could find a cure for the addiction I'd be rich....AND thinner!
2. I love herbs and can't wait to hit the herb festivals every spring.
3. I wish I was better with time management.
4. I am a chronic procrastinator...big time! See #3.
5. I absolutely love Asian Pear Mojitos from P.F. Changs.
6. I have become a coffee connoisseur, which is ironic since I used to scoff at my mom for her seemingly innate ability to distinguish the the differences in different brands of coffee and for saying that coffee tastes better from a real cup than from a disposable cup. She was right, of course.
7. I just realized that 3 of my top 6 factoids are about intake of fluids. I like Black Cherry Berry tea from Celestial Seasonings too. So smooth, so refreshing, so slightly fruity. Ahem, I digress. (okay, 4 of 7 factoids now)
8. I have many hobbies, too many actually, which include making jewelry, stained glass, oil painting, sewing, gardening, decopauge, and soon I want to acquire more Photoshop skills for digital collage art. I need to find some time for that. See #3.
9. My nickname is Digger. A long story which I will explain later in a separate blog. For the record, it has nothing to do with my nose or other body parts.
10. I wish I were more organized. See #4.
11. Hopes to someday be able to make a living doing something creative, rather than them all just being hobbies. Or by maybe BLOGGING about all my hobbies, amongst other quirky things.
12. Biggest peeve right now is people texting and driving. Why? Why in the world is there a need to text ANYONE while driving. What is so darn important to risk everyone's lives? Pay attention to the road people! I bet you'd quit if you had to pay for damages from an accident you caused....not that lives aren't important enough, but people usually listen better when their cash is involved.
13. Favorite quote from a movie: "Come on Randy....show mommy how the little piggies eat" - A Christmas Story
14. I'm afflicted with earworms - I know, it sounds like a really bad disease, but it just means I get songs stuck in my head very easily, worming their way to my brain and leaving not much else to function up there.
15. I'm a giggler. That's right, laughing most all the time. Even when I'm sad, it happens. Wait til you see the baby photo.
16. Favorite saying: "It is what it is." It says it all I think.
17. I'm a little bit impatient and as my dad recently said "a little quick to temper". Me? Noooo. Yes, my whole family is laughing at this.
18. I'm just a tad bit addicted to Facebook...but, afterall, it's where I keep most of my friends.
19. I never feel bored. Good grief, Charlie Brown, how CAN I be, did you read about all my hobbies? See #8.
20. I want to live in the Colorado/New Mexico foothills someday, preferably before retirement age. I guess I better get in gear on that one. Where has all the time gone???

Here I am....The Giggler
